Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

1. Introduction

These terms and conditions govern your use of the website operated by Circuit Works ("we", "our", "us") and the electrical services we provide. By using our website or booking a service, you agree to these terms in full.

2. Our Services

We provide electrical services for residential and commercial properties across Yorkshire. All services are carried out by NAPIT registered, Part P compliant electricians.

3. Quotes and Pricing

  • Online quotes for standard electrical work are provided based on the information you supply. The quoted price is fixed, provided the information given is accurate.
  • For larger or complex projects, quotes are provided following a survey (video or on-site) and remain valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
  • All prices include VAT unless otherwise stated.
  • If, upon arrival, our engineer discovers that the information provided during the quote process was materially inaccurate (e.g. incorrect room dimensions, undisclosed access issues), we reserve the right to revise the quote before commencing work.

4. Booking and Payment

  • Bookings are confirmed once full payment or an agreed deposit has been received.
  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe. We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers.

5. Deposits

  • A deposit of 20% of the total quoted price is required prior to the job date being secured in our schedule.
  • Subject to your cancellation rights under Section 8, where materials have been ordered or prepared specifically for your job (including but not limited to cut-to-length cables, bespoke components, or non-returnable items), the cost of those materials may be deducted from any refund due, or invoiced separately if the material costs exceed the deposit amount.
  • The remaining balance is due upon completion of the work unless alternative payment terms have been agreed in writing.

6. Late Payments

The following terms apply to overdue invoices and late payments:

  • Domestic customers: All invoices are due for payment upon completion of work or by the date specified on the invoice, whichever is earlier. If payment is not received within 14 days of the due date, we reserve the right to charge interest at a rate of 4% per annum above the Bank of England base rate on the outstanding balance until payment is received in full. By accepting these terms and proceeding with a booking, you agree to this contractual interest provision.
  • Commercial customers: Late payments from business customers are subject to the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998. This entitles us to charge statutory interest at 8% per annum above the Bank of England base rate from the date payment becomes overdue, plus a fixed compensation charge for debt recovery costs as specified by the Act (£40 for debts up to £999.99, £70 for debts between £1,000 and £9,999.99, £100 for debts of £10,000 or more).
  • We may suspend or withhold warranties or further services where payment remains outstanding beyond the agreed terms. This does not affect our obligation to issue statutory certificates for notifiable electrical work.
  • In the event of persistent non-payment, we reserve the right to instruct a third-party debt recovery agent or commence legal proceedings to recover the full outstanding balance plus any accrued interest, compensation, and reasonable recovery costs.

7. Retention of Title

  • All materials, components, and goods supplied by Circuit Works as part of any installation or service remain the property of Circuit Works until full payment has been received for the work, including any outstanding balance, interest, or other sums due. Once materials have been permanently installed or incorporated into the property (for example, wired into the fixed electrical installation), they are considered fixtures and title passes upon installation.
  • Risk in the materials passes to you upon delivery to or installation at the property. You are responsible for any loss or damage to materials from that point, regardless of whether title has passed.
  • Where payment remains outstanding, we reserve the right to recover any uninstalled materials or goods that have not been incorporated into the property, by prior arrangement and provided it is safe and practicable to do so.
  • You must not remove, sell, or otherwise dispose of any uninstalled materials supplied by us until full payment has been made.

8. Cancellation and Rescheduling

  • Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of booking for online purchases, during which you may cancel for any reason and receive a full refund of any sums paid.
  • If you explicitly request that work begins during the cooling-off period, and you acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel once the service has been fully performed, your right to cancel is lost upon completion of the work. If you cancel after work has begun but before it is completed, you will be required to pay a proportionate amount for the services already provided.
  • Cancellations made outside of the 14-day cooling-off period may be subject to a cancellation fee to cover committed costs.

9. Cancellation by Us (Force Majeure)

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule appointments where performance of our obligations is prevented or materially affected by circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Such circumstances include, but are not limited to:

  • Acts of God, including but not limited to storms, flooding, lightning, snow, ice, or other severe weather conditions.
  • Adverse weather conditions that make travel to or work at the property unsafe or impracticable.
  • Road closures, accidents, or travel disruptions that prevent our electrician from reaching the property.
  • Illness, injury, or other incapacity of our staff or subcontractors.
  • Government restrictions, public health emergencies, or other regulatory actions.
  • Any other event beyond our reasonable control that prevents us from safely or lawfully carrying out the scheduled work.

Where we cancel or reschedule due to force majeure, we will notify you as soon as reasonably practicable and offer an alternative date at no additional cost. No cancellation fees will be charged to you in these circumstances.

10. Fault Finding & Call Out Fees

  • Fault finding work is subject to a call out fee which covers the first hour of the electrician's time on site.
  • After the first hour, fault finding is charged on a 15-minute basis for the time actually spent fault finding.
  • The call out fee and hourly rate will be confirmed with you before any work begins.
  • If remedial work is required following fault finding, a separate quote will be provided for the repair.

11. Installation

  • You must provide safe and clear access to the installation area. Any obstructions that prevent or delay installation are your responsibility.
  • You confirm that you have the necessary permissions (landlord consent, leasehold permissions, planning approval if applicable) for the installation to proceed.
  • We will carry out all work in accordance with relevant Part P Building Regulations, BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations), and industry best practices.
  • Minor cosmetic work (such as making good around cable routes, chased channels, or drilled holes) is included. Significant building or decorating work is not included unless specified in the quote.

12. Additional & Unforeseen Work

  • If, during the course of work, our electrician discovers additional issues that were not visible or reasonably foreseeable at the time of quoting (for example, deteriorated wiring concealed behind walls, inadequate earthing arrangements, or other pre-existing defects), we will inform you before carrying out any additional work.
  • A revised quote or daywork rate will be provided for your approval before any additional work proceeds. We will not carry out additional chargeable work without your consent unless it is necessary to make the installation safe.
  • Where a safety issue is identified that requires immediate attention (such as a C1 danger present defect), we may need to isolate or disconnect the affected circuit to comply with our obligations under BS 7671. This will be explained to you at the time.

13. Power Interruptions During Electrical Work

  • Electrical work and testing will require the power supply to individual circuits, or to the entire property, to be temporarily switched off. We cannot guarantee an uninterrupted power supply during electrical work or inspection visits.
  • If you work from home or rely on a continuous power supply for equipment such as computers, servers, or medical devices, it is your responsibility to make alternative arrangements for the duration of the work.
  • We will give you as much notice as possible before isolating circuits and will aim to restore power as quickly as is safely practicable, but we are not liable for any loss of work, data, or income resulting from planned or necessary power interruptions during the course of our work.

14. Customer Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for clearing the work area of personal belongings, furniture, and valuables before our arrival. We will take reasonable care, but we cannot be held responsible for items left in the work area.
  • Pets must be kept away from the work area for the safety of both the animals and our electricians.
  • Adequate parking must be available within reasonable distance of the property for our service vehicle. Any parking charges or permits required are your responsibility.
  • Electrical work may generate dust, particularly when chasing walls or lifting floorboards. We will dust-sheet work areas and clean up after ourselves, but some residual dust may remain. Any redecorating required is your responsibility unless specifically included in the quote.

15. Certification & Compliance

  • All notifiable electrical work is registered with the relevant local authority Building Control department through our NAPIT registration scheme, at no additional cost to you.
  • On completion of notifiable work, you will receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or Minor Works Certificate as appropriate. A Building Regulations Compliance Certificate will follow from NAPIT.
  • It is your responsibility to retain all certificates issued. These may be required for property sales, insurance claims, or future inspections. Replacement copies may be subject to an administration fee.

16. EICR Testing & Inspection Services

The following terms apply specifically to Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and periodic inspection services carried out by Circuit Works.

  • All EICR inspections are carried out in accordance with BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations) by NAPIT registered electricians holding current inspection and testing qualifications. The outcome of the report, satisfactory or unsatisfactory, is determined solely by the findings against this national standard.
  • The EICR is an independent assessment of the condition of your fixed electrical installation at the time of inspection. We cannot guarantee a satisfactory result, as the outcome depends entirely on the condition of the installation.
  • If the EICR identifies C1 (danger present) or C2 (potentially dangerous) observations, the overall result will be recorded as unsatisfactory. You are under no obligation to use Circuit Works for any remedial work arising from the report. You are free to obtain quotations from any suitably qualified and registered electrician.
  • Where remedial work identified in an EICR is carried out by a third party, Circuit Works reserves the right to charge a retest fee to verify and certify that the remedial work has been completed to the required standard. This retest is necessary to confirm compliance and to update the original report accordingly. The retest fee will be communicated to you in advance.
  • Where Circuit Works carries out both the EICR and the subsequent remedial work, retesting of the affected circuits is included at no additional charge.
  • EICR reports are issued to the person or organisation that commissioned the inspection. For landlords, it is your responsibility to provide a copy of the report to your tenants and, if requested, to your local authority within the timeframes required by the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
  • The inspection covers the fixed electrical installation only, including wiring, sockets, switches, the consumer unit, earthing, and bonding. It does not cover portable appliances, equipment connected by a plug, or any installation that is the responsibility of the electricity distributor.
  • You must provide safe and unobstructed access to the consumer unit, all distribution boards, and all areas of the property where the fixed installation is present. If access to any part of the installation is restricted or unavailable, this will be recorded on the report and those areas may be excluded from the inspection.
  • During the inspection, it may be necessary to temporarily isolate individual circuits. Where a C1 (danger present) defect is identified, the electrician may need to disconnect or isolate the affected circuit for safety reasons. This is a professional obligation under BS 7671 and is carried out to protect the occupants of the property.
  • Certificates and reports are typically issued within 48 hours of the inspection. This timescale is an estimate and not a guarantee, particularly during periods of high demand.

17. No Access Fee

  • If our electrician arrives at the property for a scheduled EICR inspection or other booked work and is unable to gain access, a no access fee of £60 plus VAT will be charged.
  • This fee covers the cost of the electrician's time and travel to the property.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that access to the property is available at the agreed time.

18. Warranty

  • All installations come with a 5-year warranty covering our workmanship and labour from the date of installation. Parts and components are covered by the relevant manufacturer's warranty for the duration and on the terms specified by the manufacturer.
  • The warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, neglect, unauthorised modifications, or Acts of God.
  • Where you supply your own parts or materials for an installation, our warranty is limited to the fixed wiring and our workmanship only. We accept no liability for the performance, failure, or compatibility of customer-supplied components.
  • This warranty is provided in addition to your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which are not affected by these terms.

19. Liability

  • We carry full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
  • Our liability for any claim arising from our services is limited to the value of the contract.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or incidental losses arising from our services.
  • Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
  • Nothing in these terms is intended to or shall affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

20. Data Protection

We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

  • We collect and process personal data (including your name, address, contact details, and property information) solely for the purpose of providing our electrical services, managing bookings, issuing certificates, and complying with our legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Your personal data may be shared with third parties where necessary for the performance of our services or to meet legal requirements, including but not limited to NAPIT, local authority Building Control, and our payment processor (Stripe). We will not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
  • Personal data is retained only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. Electrical certificates and related records may be retained for a minimum period in line with industry and regulatory requirements.
  • You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, as well as the right to restrict or object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@circuit-works.uk.
  • For full details on how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

23. Complaints Procedure

  • If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our work, please contact us as soon as possible at hello@circuit-works.uk or by phone. We aim to acknowledge all complaints within 2 working days and to resolve them within 14 working days.
  • Where a complaint relates to the standard of electrical work, we will arrange a return visit at no charge to inspect and, where appropriate, rectify the issue.
  • If we are unable to resolve the matter to your satisfaction, you may refer the complaint to NAPIT as our registered competent person scheme, or to your local Trading Standards office.

24. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The latest version will always be available on our website. Where changes affect an existing booking, we will notify you directly. Your continued use of our services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
